Case Study

Burren Junction Silos

Project Date: 2020

Project Location: Burren Junction, NSW

Project Type: Commercial

Project Requirements

GrainCorp required internal scaffolding for silos 2 and 3 to complete rectification works on grain chutes and towers. The project also required access solutions for the external area of silos 2 and 3 to complete steelwork, concrete cutting, and post tension.

Project Challenges

The project had several challenges including the confined space for the internal silo works which included over 60 tonnes of scaffolding to be installed and dismantled via a 600 x 1200 hole at the bottom entrance.

Other project challenges included specialist rail corridor works which required appropriately ticketed crew members, along with working at significant heights.

Project Summary

The project required over 60 tonnes of scaffolding and included tube and fit, kwikstage scaffolding, loading platforms and stair access towers.

The seamless execution of the complex project can be credited to the detailed pre-planning between our Branch Coordinator and GrainCorp, followed by ongoing collaboration with the Supervisor and scaffolding team to ensure the scope was delivered and fulfilled GrainCorp’s requirements.

Testimonial

Thomas Scaffolding are assisting GrainCorp in undertaking works at our Burren Junction site 630km North West of Sydney. We have rail loading silos which are requiring repairs and strengthening works. The works of which have to be carried out at heights ranging anywhere from 10-15 metres.

Two teams of specialised sub-contractors including concrete repairers and fabrication, and welding experts were engaged to undertake the works. Both teams required practical and safe working access in difficult to reach locations internally and externally of the two silos, as well as further works inside an elevator tower.

Both areas have uneven sloped ground, and extremely tight spatial restrictions due to existing infrastructure. Thomas Scaffolding have done a fantastic job in reaching the needs required by all parties to ensure safe and practical access to the areas we required.
