Case Study

Our Lady of the Rosary
Catholic Church

Project Date: 2019

Project Location: Taree, NSW

Project Type: Community

Project Requirements

Thomas Scaffolding were contacted by local stonemason J & J Edstein to provide a creative and dynamic scaffolding solution for the cross restoration of the Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church.

The three crosses on the roof of the Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, Taree, were deteriorating and needed to be replaced, without disrupting access to the church. The scaffolding needed to provide access to both the front and back of the cross to enable to the contractors to safely detach the old cross, as well as install the new cross by hand.

A team of 10 Thomas Scaffolding employees installed and dismantled the scaffolding, not once, but three times as each cross was removed and replaced.

Project Challenges / Highlights

The project required a creative solution to allow the safe removal of the crosses, as well as the installation of the new stone crosses to the church roof.

Thomas Scaffolding contracted a scaffolding design with engineering firm Stekiz Engineering to ensure the stability of the cantilever design. This project also offered an opportunity for our team to work with the Gotcha Compact Rescue Kit from Height Dynamics which is one of the best rescue kits on the market. We also conducted Work Safety at Heights Training with our team to ensure correct installation of the rescue kit.
